Our Story
Founded in 1956, St. Mark’s is a Christian faith community that strives to live the great commandments of loving God and loving our neighbor with our minds, our hearts and our hands. Even though we differ in our circumstances, our points of view, our families, our religious heritage, and our understanding of church, we are committed to living our lives in care of one another and the community in the Spirit of Christ. We seek to live Jesus’ prayer found in the Gospel of John, “That they might all be one” (John 17:21).
We are a multi-generational church where we value all ages within the full life of the church. Our worship is traditional, not formal. We seek to understand the meaning of the scriptures in its own time while also striving to connect the scriptures to our lives today. We celebrate the sacraments of Baptism as well as Holy Communion.
We are a member of the United Church of Christ - a Protestant denomination that is as old as the founding of this country yet seeks to hear God’s “Still Speaking” voice today. As with the United Church of Christ –we believe in “testimonies of faith” rather than “tests of faith”; "in essentials unity, in non-essentials diversity; and in all things, charity”. We strive to experience God and live out God’s purposes in our daily lives.
As Jesus’ disciples we place great importance in caring for and serving others, not only in our community but in the world. We partner with several different organizations which serve others in need.
St. Mark’s United Church of Christ: No matter who, no matter what, no matter where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.
